Business Taster Day – Conference

The aim of the Business Taster Day – open to Y10 upwards – is to enhance and support the school business curriculum and spark further interest in business studies. The programme will cover a variety of topics to enhance business studies.

The structure of the day

The conference will start at around 10am and close at around 2:30pm. There will also be an opportunity to look around university campus. Lunch and refreshment will be provided and parking is only available for pre-booked minibuses and cars. There are no parking facilities for coaches.

About the themes in more depth

Does technology encourage business to behave unethically? The talk by Professor Andy Phippen will explore how technology changes business and why perhaps the power afforded by technology can mean that business fail to reflect on the ethics of what they are doing with it.

Jon Catney, the managing director of OhSoChimp, a worldwide marketing tool use to promote events, businesses and brands in almost any geographical location,  will talk about his entrepreneurial journey and will offer his valuable advice to young entrepreneurs.

Dr Hilary Duckett’s talk will explore Entrepreneurial Leadership and its application in the successful Farm Shop Comic Relief project.

Alison Theaker will talk about effective communication and offer various tools for developing better communication skills.

Dr Panagiotis Tziogkidis will explain contemporary topics in economics, its functions and implications for our daily life.

Gareth Hart’s talk will explain the concept of social enterprise, the differences and contribution to the world and the UK economy.
