A group of second year BSc (Hons) Business Management students undertook a consultancy project for Devon Disability Collective (DDC). This took place within their intensive, two week, assessed project management module during the summer. They were asked to complete a competitor analysis and identify potential customers.
Devon Disability Collective is a social enterprise. Its products are made by people with disabilities and those furthest from the labour market, and they are proud to be a British manufacturer.
DDC operates from a multipurpose, 10,000 square feet site, has over 55 years of experience manufacturing and is based at Marsh Barton in Exeter. They manufacture products to their clients’ specifications and drawings, and have built strong relationships with companies throughout the UK in the private and public sectors. They further offer packing, light engineering, contract sewing, upholstery and mobility services. They produce excellent products at very competitive prices.
The students’ project
The students produced a detailed competitor analysis that included: strengths and weaknesses; competitors; market outlook; locations; strategies; product range; and recommendations. They also thoroughly researched various sectors that hadn’t even been on DDC’s radar for customers. These findings were presented in person and handed over as a report.
